Colored pencil is a very slow medium, well suited for paintings requiring great detail, but shows off best in high contrast color saturated imagery. Because colored pencils are made of pigments with binders, they can be transparent like watercolor and layered several times to create warm rich hues, mixed in much the same way that one mixes watercolor, acrylic, or oil paints...it is very much an acceptable practice to call a colored pencil drawing a painting. Gina uses pencils rated highest in lightfastness by the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA) and archival acid free papers and substrates for her paintings to ensure that they will last a lifetime.
